Tetrabutylammonium bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate ([N4444][DEHP])

Oil-miscible alkyl ammonium organophosphate ionic liquids such as tetrabutylammonium bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate ([N4444][DEHP]) have demonstrated unique potential to bind metals and/or metal oxides; an important attribute that metal processors and water purification experts can utilize. Such ionic liquids have become the model compounds in the extraction of lanthanide metals from their ores. A key structural feature of these organo-phosphate ionic liquids is the long ethyl hexyl chains that provide better oil solubility (poor water solubility) and higher thermal stability.
