Disodium succinate is a dibasic sodium salt of succinic acid (butanedioic acid) - a bio-derived C4 dicarboxylate. It exists in the anhydrous and hexahydrate forms. The anhydrous form is a dry powder with high water solubility while the hexahydrate is a crystalline solid. Disodium succinate is commonly used as a buffering agent, cross-linker, MOF ligand, chelator, biochemical reagent. In other applications, disodium succinate is useful as a corrosion inhibitor for the protection of iron, low-carbon steel, copper, aluminum, and specialty alloys.
