Magnesium Carboxylate Salts

Organic magnesium salts such as magnesium carboxylates are commonly used as bulking agents, anticaking agents, lubricants, or as viscosity regulator. In some applications, magnesium carboxylates can be used to modify the antistatic properties of polyester films, to change the adhesion of plastics in glass/plastic compounds, and as carriers of liquids or anti-caking agents in solids. Other magnesium carboxylates perform critical functions including lubrication, cooling, deicing, and protecting surfaces against corrosive damage. In particular, magnesium stearate is known to improve the free-flowing properties of waxes, creams, and powders. It is also used as a release agent for the processing of thermoplastics and thermosets.
